Whether you are tanning in our traditional beds, or you chose VersaSpa sunless tanning, keeping your skin nourished is important. During the winter and after some tanning sessions, skin has a tendency to dry out, keeping your skin healthy maintains your glow. In a continued spirit of DIY, check out our scrub recipes on the last blog, we found a few great recipes for lotion bars you can make at home! Scrubs and lotion bars call for some of the same ingredients -- make a day of it (or an afternoon) and beat the cold and rain with some warm activities: tanning and DIY projects to keep that skin soft and nourished.
Lavender Lotion Bars (recipe courtesy of “Pink When” blog)
- 1/4 cup Organic Extra Virgin Coconut Oil
- 1/4 cup Shea Butter
- 1/4 cup 100% ORGANIC Beeswax
- 1/4 tsp Vitamin E Oil
- Lavender essential oil
You’ll need to have silicone molds ready, I had some cute ones I picked up from Target, but some folks pour into small canning jars, too. Next, melt the coconut oil, Shea butter, and beeswax together. You can use smaller amounts, just make sure you measure each out equally. Most people melt them together using a bowl over hot water. Stir in the Vitamin E oil. Let it cool for just a minute and then grab your essential oil. I put in at least 15 drops of the oil and then poured into my molds. Let it cool!
This next tutorial shows a different recipe, getting your fancy on, with grapefruit and lavender oil!
I make lotion bars almost every winter. They last, keep my skin soft, and smell amazing. I make plenty so I can gift and share!
